KATS Network: Disability Solutions Through Technology
KATS Network: Disability Solutions Through Technology

Did you know every state and territory has an assistive technology (AT) program? Each is funded by the Assistive Technology Act of 1998, as amended.

The mission of the Kentucky program (the KATS Network) is to make assistive technology information, devices and services easily obtainable for people of any age and/or disability. Spoiler: every State and Territory AT Program shares these objectives.

Something else the programs have in common? They are working hard right now to get the word out about their AT services. Covid-19 precautions have ended vendor fairs, in-person trainings, and awareness events. Each is exploring creative solutions for how to reach you.

One approach to improving outreach and awareness is through a blog. The Kentucky program has recently launched their KATS Network Blog.

Your State or Territory AT Program may be blogging or hosting webinars or posting videos or sending newsletters (or using all of these strategies) to help its community members learn about assistive technology solutions and how to obtain AT services.

In the meantime, check out this wonderful video tour of the Wendell Foster Technology and Resource Center in Kentucky. Wendell Foster is a KATS Network program partner and this video was recently featured at their new blog. Get inspired by AT and AT service opportunities (the link below begins at minute 1:15 to take you directly through their AT regional center doors).

A pandemic alone cannot keep seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities of all ages from learning about and benefiting from assistive technology.
